How to download your video transcript from YouTube
For the most accurate retention map, upload your published video's timestamped transcript. YouTube won't let apps pull it automatically, but as the video owner you can export it in a few clicks:
- 1In YouTube Studio, open your video list and click the analytics (bar-chart) icon on the video.
- 2Click the Subtitles icon in the far-left column.
- 3On the Languages page, click the pencil next to "Video language".
- 4Click the three-dot menu on "Automatic subtitles" and choose Download.
- 5Pick any format (.vtt, .srt, or .sbv all work) and save the file.
- 6In ScriptFox, open the script's Analytics view and click "Upload transcript".
The Analytics view has the same walkthrough with screenshots: click "How?" next to the upload button. Alternative: on the public watch page, open "Show transcript", copy it, and use "paste" instead.
