My recording disappeared after I left the prompter

Takes must be confirmed in the "Takes" panel before you leave; unconfirmed drafts are deleted on exit. Confirmed takes are under "Voice recordings" in the sidebar. If a save failed you'd have seen "Couldn't save the recording"; tell me if you did and I'll pass it along.
