Teleprompter for iPad
Paste your script and read it on your iPad, in Safari. It scrolls at the speed you set and flips for a glass teleprompter rig. No app to install, nothing to sign up for.
At 130 words a minute. Titles and notes aren't counted.
Change it while you read, too: the − and + buttons, or the − and = keys.
Paste a script, or try the sample, to start.
Save this script to a free account: Scriptfox scrolls as you speak and waits when you pause. No card.
Your script stays in this browser. Nothing is uploaded unless you save it.
On your iPad
- 1
Open it in Safari
Or Chrome. Paste a script or try the sample, set the speed, and tap Start.
- 2
Put the camera edge on top
Turn the iPad so the edge with the front camera is at the top, and read from the arrows a third of the way down.
- 3
Tap, drag, mirror
A tap pauses it, dragging moves the text back or on, and − and + change the speed. For a glass rig, tick Mirror the text.
How to use a teleprompter on an iPad
An iPad makes a good teleprompter: a big, bright screen you can put right next to a camera. People use it in one of two ways. Facing them, propped just under the lens of the camera or phone they film with. Or lying under the glass of a teleprompter rig, where the text is reflected straight in front of the lens and you look through it.
The teleprompter above runs in Safari. Paste the script, set a speed in words a minute, and tap Start: after a 3-2-1 the text rises past two small arrows, and you read the line between them. Tap to pause, drag to go back a line, and change the speed or the text size while it moves. It asks the iPad to keep the screen awake while it scrolls; if the screen still dims, raise Auto-Lock in Settings for the take.
For a rig, tick Mirror the text: it flips left to right so it reads the right way round in the glass. The guide on how to use a teleprompter covers speed, distance and the first read, and the script timer tells you how long a script runs before you set up.
A set speed, or your voice?
This page moves at the speed you set, and you keep up. That's fine once the speed is right, but there is no one at the controls to slow it down when you pause or add a line of your own, and on a rig your hands are rarely near the screen.
Scriptfox's own teleprompter follows your voice instead, in Safari on the same iPad: it listens as you read, waits when you pause and catches up when you skip ahead. A free account includes 30 voice minutes a month, and the script you paste here comes with you. Safari asks once for the microphone; allow the microphone on an iPad if you said no.
The Scriptfox app for iPad
The Scriptfox app for iPhone and iPad is a free download on the App Store that signs in to the same account. It puts your script over the iPad's front camera and records you while it follows your voice, saving the video to the iPad's photos in a Scriptfox album; the script never appears in the video, and nothing is uploaded. On an iPad it turns either way.
For teleprompter hardware it has Rig mode: the camera off and the script full screen on black, with Mirror text to flip it for the glass. Size, width, transparency, text size and the reading line are sliders in the app's Overlay sheet, and what the app can do lists the rest. Scriptfox's floating window isn't on the iPad: it needs Chrome or Edge on a computer.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need an app for a teleprompter on iPad?
No. The teleprompter on this page runs in Safari, with no app and no account. The Scriptfox app is a free download if you want to film yourself with the iPad's own camera while the script follows your voice.
Can I use my iPad in a teleprompter rig?
Yes. Tick "Mirror the text", or press M on a keyboard, and the text flips to read correctly in the glass. The Scriptfox app's Rig mode does it too, with the camera off and the script full screen on black.
Which iPads does it work on?
Any iPad with an up-to-date Safari: iPad, iPad mini, iPad Air or iPad Pro. It is a web page, so there is nothing to install.
Does it work with a keyboard?
Yes. With a keyboard attached, Space pauses, the up and down arrows nudge the text, and − and = change the speed while it scrolls.
Can I record myself while it scrolls?
Not with this page, which only scrolls. Film with your camera or phone while the iPad shows the words, or use the Scriptfox app, which records with the iPad's front camera behind the script and keeps the video on the iPad.
Can it follow my voice?
Not this free page, which never turns on the microphone. A free Scriptfox account follows your voice in Safari on the iPad or in the app, with 30 voice minutes a month; the Prompter plan, $79 a year, makes it unlimited.
